Airtours International ( Airtours publicly ) was a British charter airline based in Manchester . The company was renamed MyTravel Airways (UK) in 2002 and merged with the British Thomas Cook Airlines in 2008 .
Airtours International
The airline Airtours International was founded on October 10, 1990 in Manchester as a subsidiary of the tour operator Airtours Holding . Operations began on March 20, 1991 with a flight from Manchester to Rhodes . The company initially deployed five leased McDonnell Douglas MD-83s .
In September 1993, the fleet was supplemented with the first Airbus A320 , and a month later the first two Boeing 757s came into operation. Back in July 1993, had Airtours holding the in Cardiff -based tour operator Aspro Holidays adopted its subsidiary Inter European Airways fully in the on 31 October 1993 Airtours International opened. Long-haul flights to Thailand and the USA were recorded with two Boeing 767s from summer 1994 . In July 1994 the Airtours Holding acquired the 50% stake that the SAS Leisure Group owned in the Scandinavian charter company Premiair . In 1996 the tourism group took over the Danish tour operator Spies Holding A / S and with it the remaining shares in Premiair . The Premiair remained as an independent subsidiary composed and conducted its operation first under this brand name on. In 1998, Airtours Holding secured a majority stake in the Belgian holiday provider Sun International and in the old Air Belgium , which was fully integrated into the airline Airtours International in 2000 .
MyTravel Airways
In February 2002 the travel company Airtours was restructured and renamed the MyTravel Group . As a result, were the two airline of the Group, the British Airtours International and the Danish Premiair , from 1 May 2002 at the outer appearance under the common brand name MyTravel Airways , but remained legally two separate companies MyTravel Airways UK and MyTravel Airways A / S .
Merger and bankruptcy Thomas Cook Group
In 2007 the MyTravel Group and Thomas Cook AG merged to form the Thomas Cook Group . As part of the merger, the British MyTravel Airways was integrated into the British Thomas Cook Airlines on March 30, 2008 . At the same time, the Swedish MyTravel Airways A / S was renamed Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia .
On September 22, 2019, the parent company, the Thomas Cook Group, files for bankruptcy. The British aircraft subsidiary went bankrupt on September 23 and ceased operations. In contrast, the Swedish aircraft subsidiary was able to continue flight operations and was sold from the bankruptcy estate and has been operating independently under Sunclass Airlines since October 31, 2019 .
