Citywing was the brand name of Citywing Aviation Services Limited . It was a British virtual regional airline based on the Isle of Man and based at Isle of Man Airport . She had her flights carried out by other airlines and worked exclusively in the field of marketing and ticket sales.
history
Manx2
Manx2 was founded on May 11, 2006 and started its flight operations on July 15, 2006. Owner was Noel Hayes. A team that had already built up the Blue Islands airline was used to build up the company .
First, a BAe Jetstream 31 operated by Jetstream Executive Travel was used to connect the Isle of Man to Leeds / Bradford Airport . From 2006, Manx2 used the first Let L-410 leased by Van Air Europe in its own livery. The first three routes operated under their own colors led from the Isle of Man to Belfast , Blackpool and Leeds / Bradford .
After receiving a Fairchild Metroliner from FLM Aviation , the route network to George Best Belfast City Airport was expanded. At the same time, the rented Let L-410s continued to be used on the connections to Belfast International and Blackpool airports. The company set up a shipment to Gloucestershire in 2007.
Manx2's last flight was on December 31, 2012. As of January 1, 2013, all assets were transferred to Citywing.
Citywing
In November 2012 it was announced that Manx2 had been bought by the management and Citywing was founded on November 22, 2012. On January 1, 2013, Manx2's assets were acquired by the new Citywing company and the flights were put up for sale on the new company's website. The first flight with the Citywing brand took off on January 2, 2013.
Citywing ceased operations on March 11, 2017; the liquidation of the company was initiated. The reason for this was the accumulation of extensive losses after the British aviation authority revoked the permits of the Czech Citywing partner Van Air Europe and Citywing had to buy capacities from outside companies as a result.
Destinations
As of January 2013, Citywing offered flights from its home base on the Isle of Man to Blackpool , Gloucester and Newcastle, as well as Belfast to Blackpool and Cardiff to Valley .
fleet
As of September 2015, the Citywing's fleet consisted of five Let L-410s (operated by Van Air Europe ).
Incidents
Citywing has never had a fatal accident in its history.
The predecessor company Manx2 recorded one accident with fatalities in its history:
- On February 10, 2011 a Fairchild Metroliner SA-227-BC coming from Belfast with the aircraft registration number EC-ITP on Manx2 flight 7100 crashed while landing at Cork Airport . The plane overturned in the thick fog and went up in flames, six of the ten passengers and two crew members on board died.
