Highland Express Airways , just like Highland Express , was a short-lived Scottish airline based in Prestwick .
history
Highland Express Airways was founded in 1984 by lawyer and poker player Randolph Fields. This had previously withdrawn from the management of Virgin Atlantic due to a dispute . After delays in the procurement of its own aircraft, the company began operations in June 1987 with a Boeing 747-100 . The flights led from London Stansted to Newark , although a stopover was made in Prestwick .
Just 5 months later, in mid-December 1987, flight operations were stopped again because the number of passengers had not met expectations. Charter flights to Florida planned for January 1988 could not be realized either, so that the company was dissolved a short time later.
Destinations
Highland Express Airways only served the London Stansted - Prestwick - Newark route in the short period of its existence.
fleet
When operations ceased in December 1987, the Highland Express Airways fleet consisted of a Boeing 747-100 with the registration G-HIHO .
This then switched to Qantas Airways .
