Airways International Cymru was a British charter airline based in Cardiff , Welsh that ceased operations in early 1988.
history
Airways International Cymru was established in November 1983 by Anthony Clemo as proprietary charter airline of British tour operator Red Dragon Travel established to vacation packages from Cardiff Airport in the Mediterranean region to perform. Operations began on February 1, 1984 with two BAC 111-300 aircraft from Quebecair , Canada . The fleet was supplemented on March 28, 1984 with a Boeing 737-200 from the inventory of Britannia Airways and in 1986 with a leased brand new Boeing 737-300 . In addition, the company rented additional aircraft from other companies and used them briefly during the main season in sub-charter on its own route network. In September 1987 Airways International Cymru ran into economic difficulties. As a result, talks were held with the British airline Paramount Airways to sell the company, but they were unsuccessful. After negotiations failed, Airways International Cymru filed for bankruptcy in January 1988 . The flight services were continued by the successor company Amber Airways .
