Air Southwest Limited was a British regional airline based in Plymouth and a subsidiary of Sutton Harbor Holdings Plc , which was also the owner and operator of the now closed Plymouth Airport .
history
The airline was founded on January 15, 2003 as Placedean Technology . The name was changed to Air Southwest on June 3, 2003, after being called Mid South Aviation from March 27, 2003 . The airline was supposed to fill the gap created by the withdrawal of British Airways in south-west England.
On October 26, 2003, one day after British Airways discontinued scheduled services, the first scheduled flight from Plymouth via Newquay to Gatwick Airport took place . On April 11, 2005, a new hub was set up in Newquay with direct flights to Dublin and Leeds / Bradford via Bristol. At the same time, Newquay became a crew base with five flight attendants, ten pilots and one machine. A third crew base and hub has been established at Bristol Airport .
In September 2010 it was announced that Air Southwest would be acquired, pending regulatory approval by Eastern Airways . In July 2011 it was announced that Air Southwest would gradually give up its bases in Plymouth and Newquay and thus the flight operations under its own name by autumn 2011, which has now also happened.
aims
Until the end of September 2011, Air Southwest served numerous destinations within Great Britain from its bases in Plymouth and Newquay, including Jersey , Bristol and Manchester as well as two destinations in Ireland with Dublin and Cork .
fleet
As of September 2011, before flight operations ceased, Air Southwest's fleet consisted of three aircraft:
- 3 De Havilland DHC- 8-300 (operated by Eastern Airways )
