Excalibur Airways was a British charter airline .
history
Excalibur Airways was founded in 1992 and started operations with three leased Airbus A320-200s based at East Midlands Airport , although the majority of flights took off at London Gatwick Airport . In 1994 the fleet was expanded to include another A320 and the first Boeing 737-300 . Excalibur Airways was the first charter airline to operate an Airbus A320 Family aircraft .
In the summer of 1995 Excalibur Airways had three planes in London-Gatwick and one each at Manchester Airport , one at East Midlands Airport and one at the airports in the north-east of Great Britain (the plane was then usually used from Newcastle Airport and Humberside Airport, for example ) . At that time, the airline only used Airbus A320s, the three Boeing 737s were sold.
In 1995 tour operators began to terminate their contracts with Excalibur Airways due to a number of service quality issues. In addition, smoke arose in 1996 when a McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 attempted to take off, so that the airline was considered unsafe by the population.
Shortly afterwards, Excalibur Airways finally had to cease operations in June 1996.
Destinations
Most of the flights went to Egypt , other destinations were in North Africa and the Mediterranean region. At the end of 1995, the airline started long-haul flights to Florida and the Caribbean for the first time .
