The Air Tanker Services Ltd. ( branded AirTanker ) is a British charter airline based in Carterton , West Oxfordshire on the RAF Brize Norton Air Force Base .
history
In 2008, the undersigned United Kingdom Ministry of Defense the Treaty on the concept of the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) with Air Tanker to the Royal Air Force (RAF) an air transport and air-to-air refueling contingent provide. In addition to serving the Royal Air Force, AirTanker holds a UK Type A Civil Aviation Operating License that allows passengers, cargo and mail to be carried on aircraft with 20 or more seats. The RAF Airbus Voyager are owned by Airtanker. Air Tanker presented its Airbus Voyager to the public for the first time at RIAT 2016 in England.
After being granted an operating license, the airline flew its first charter flight to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus for the British Ministry of Defense in January 2013 . After delays in certification, the first refueling flight took place on May 20, 2013.
As of May 2015, AirTanker has leased an aircraft to Thomas Cook Airlines in order to use it on holiday routes. The contract will initially run for three years and will mainly cover long-haul flights from Glasgow , Manchester and London-Stansted . Its first commercial flight took place on May 1, 2015 from Manchester to Cancun and Punta Cana for Thomas Cook Airlines with an Airbus A330 .
On September 30, 2016, AirTanker reached the milestone for the final construction phase in the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) program, with the full-service date on time and the budget of all 14 aircraft being met.
Services
AirTanker Services operates air refueling, transportation and passenger flights. Charter flights are carried out with reserve aircraft. The airline also offers flights from RAF Brize Norton to RAF Mount Pleasant in the Falkland Islands twice a week , mostly for military personnel, although paying passengers are also allowed to travel.
