West Oxfordshire is a district in the county of Oxfordshire in England . The administrative seat is Witney ; other significant places are Charlbury , Chipping Norton and Woodstock .
history
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the Municipal Borough Chipping Norton, the Urban District Witney and the Rural Districts Chipping Norton and Witney.

The district is divided into 83 parishes ( Civil Parish ):

Of these, 54 have their own, Churchill and Sarsden as well as Curbridge and Lew have a joint parish council. The remaining 27 do not have such a body; instead, residents ' assemblies are held. Burford, Carterton, Charlbury, Chipping Norton, Witney and Woodstock are small towns ( Town ), accordingly the council there is called Town Council .
