Cherwell is a district in Oxfordshire in England . It is named after the Cherwell River, which flows into the Thames at Oxford . The administrative seat is in Banbury ; other important places are Bicester , Bodicote , Cropredy , Drayton , Hook Norton and Kidlington .

history

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Municipal Borough Banbury, the Urban District Bicester and the Rural Districts Banbury and Plowley.
