Vale of White Horse ("Valley of the White Horse") is a district in Oxfordshire in England and named after the Uffington White Horse . The administrative seat is Abingdon ; other important places are Grove , Faringdon and Wantage .
history
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the Municipal Borough Abingdon, the Urban District Wantage, the Rural Districts Abingdon and Faringdon and part of the Rural District Wantage. Before 1974, the entire area was part of Berkshire County .

The district is divided into 69 parishes ( Civil Parish ):

Of these, 51 have their own, Ardington and Lockinge have a joint Parish Council. The remaining 17 do not have such a body; instead, residents' assemblies take place. Abingdon on Thames, Great Faringdon and Wantage are small towns ( Town ), accordingly the council there is called Town Council .
