Global Supply Systems was a British cargo airline based at London Stansted Airport .
history
Global Supply Systems was founded in 2001 before commencing operations on June 29, 2002 on a Boeing 747-400F leased from Atlas Air . It received a Type A license from the Civil Aviation Authority , which entitles it to carry passengers, freight and mail with machines with more than 20 seats. The second Boeing 747 was added in October 2002, the third finally in August 2003. From the beginning, Global Supply Systems only operated pure leasing flights under the ACMI principle; the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance are therefore provided. The first customer was British Airways , which operated flights to the Middle East , India , Europe and the USA until April 2014 . The first flight operated led from London-Stansted via Frankfurt am Main to Hong Kong .
In autumn 2011, Global Supply Systems was one of the world's first operators of the new Boeing 747-8F ordered by Atlas Air .
On January 22, 2014, British Airways announced that the lease with GSS would be terminated early in April 2014 and that all three full freighters would be returned. British Airways paid GSS an undisclosed sum of money for this. It is not known to whom the aircraft will be leased afterwards.
The company was majority owned by the UK (51%), Atlas Air was a minority shareholder with 49%.
