Peach Air was a short-lived British charter airline that ceased operations in 1998.
history
Peach Air was founded in 1996 as a subsidiary of Caledonian Airways and the travel agent Goldcrest Aviation , both of which were part of the British travel company Inspirations Group . Peach Air was conceived as a low-cost airline that offered IT charter services on more favorable terms than its parent company Caledonian Airways .
To commence operations, Peach Air leased two Boeing 737-200s from Saber Airways and four Lockheed L-1011s from Air Atlanta Icelandic . The first flight took place on May 1, 1997 from London Gatwick to Barcelona . The company operated mainly tourist charter traffic from the departure airports of London Gatwick, Manchester and Dublin . In 1997, the Inspirations Group was bought by the Carlson Leisure Group , and the airlines Peach Air and Caledonian Airways also passed into their ownership. In the fall of 1998, the Carlson Leisure Group announced its merger with the Thomas Cook Group . The future business model did not provide for a low budget charter , so that Peach Air ceased operations on November 1, 1998 as part of the merger.
