Paramount Airways was a Bristol- based British charter airline that ceased operations in 1989.
history
Paramount Airways was founded on July 8th, 1986 to operate tourist charter flights (IT charter) from Bristol and Cardiff airports to southern Europe and the Canary Islands . Operations began on May 1, 1987 with two leased McDonnell Douglas MD-83s from Bristol Airport to Málaga and Tenerife . Paramount Airways was the first British airline to operate this type of aircraft. In the 1987/88 winter season, the company also used the aircraft on long-haul flights to Goa ( India ). In early 1988 two more McDonnell Douglas MD-83s added to the fleet. The company took over the British airline Amber Airways and its route network in November 1988 . During the 1989 summer season, Paramount Airways carried out charter flights from Berlin-Tegel Airport with a leased Boeing 737-200 . At the same time, two leased Boeing 707s from Middle East Airlines (MEA) and a leased Boeing 737-300 were used on IT charter flights from Great Britain to the Mediterranean region. The company ran into economic difficulties in the summer of 1989 and filed for bankruptcy on August 7, 1989 . Flight operations could continue under the supervision of the insolvency administration until the end of the summer season. Paramount Airways was liquidated in 1990.
The company had one on the Birmingham Airport based subsidiary company, Paramount executive , the business aviation with two Cessna Citation I offered.
