Stefan Nystrand (born October 20, 1981 in Haninge ) is one of the most successful Swedish freestyle swimmers today.

Career

His father Sture Nystrand is Swede, his mother Smiljana Kokeza was born in Split , Croatia . His specialty is mainly the short course, where he was able to win a total of 25 medals at world and European championships. At the European Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2006 he was also able to appear on the long track for the first time when he won the silver medal behind Filippo Magnini over the 100 m freestyle distance .

The following year, with a new Swedish record, he won the bronze medal over the 50 m freestyle course at the 2007 World Swimming Championships in Melbourne .

Nystrand was also twice a participant in the Summer Olympics in 2000 and 2004 , whereby in 2004 he achieved his best Olympic placement in the 50 m freestyle with fourth place.
