Joseph "Joe" George Dodge (* 9. February 1922 in Monroe , Wisconsin ; † 18th August 2004 ) was an American jazz - drummer .

Joe Dodge grew up on the west coast of the United States and learned drums from an orchestra musician. He initially oriented stylistically to bebop drummers Max Roach and Art Blakey , but opted for a softer sound that he in the rhythm section with the alto saxophonist Desmond Paul began, with whom he formed in 1947 an ensemble, which also includes the pianist Dave Brubeck belonged . Dodge also played in Nick Esposito's touring band in 1948/49 and toured with Dave Brubeck from 1953 to 1956.
