Bob Bates (musician)
Robert "Bob" Bates (born September 1, 1923 in Pocatello , Idaho , † September 13, 1981 in San Francisco ) was an American jazz bassist . He played with Dave Brubeck .
Live and act
Bob Bates is the brother of bassist Norman Bates . He studied classical bass from 1944 to 1948 and played with Sonny Dunham in 1947 and with Jack Fina from 1948 to 1949. Most memorable will be Bates' membership in the early formations of Dave Brubeck from 1953 to 1956. After his departure, his brother took over Norman found his place in the Brubeck band. Since then, Bob Bates has not worked as a jazz musician.
