Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics was a Spanish airline with headquarters in Palma and operational base at Palma de Mallorca Airport . It was a subsidiary of the British Thomas Cook Group .

history

Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics was founded in October 2017 parallel to the cessation of operations of Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium . The planned start of operations on February 2, 2018 was delayed by the award of the Air Operator Certificate , which the company received on March 21, 2018. On March 24, 2018, the company carried out a flight for Condor from Hanover to Mallorca for the first time , using an Airbus A320 ( registration number : EC-MTJ ), which was transferred to the sister company by the British Thomas Cook Airlines .

On February 7, 2019, Thomas Cook announced that it would put Thomas Cook Group Airline including Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics up for sale; flight operations continued as normal.

As a result of the insolvency of the Thomas Cook Group , Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics also filed for insolvency under Spanish law (pre-insolvency) at the beginning of October 2019 , but business operations will initially continue and the aircraft will continue to be used for Condor . Shortly afterwards it became known that all six aircraft would be transferred to German flight operations.

After the bankruptcy of the parent company, Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics tried to secure long-term survival through negotiations with the creditors. Since these negotiations did not lead to any result, the company had to file for bankruptcy on December 20, 2019. At that time, the company employed around 100 people and operated three aircraft. Flight operations were initially continued and ceased in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic . On April 15, 2020, Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics handed over the last aircraft to Condor.
