history
Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium was founded on December 12, 2001 as a charter and ad-hoc / ACMI company by the German Thomas Cook AG in order to serve the Belgian market. Flight operations began on March 13, 2002. Since June 19, 2007, it has been part of the Thomas Cook Group through the merger of Thomas Cook and MyTravel Group PLC .
On March 30, 2017, the sale of the company for autumn 2017 was announced, whereby Brussels Airlines would take over the majority of Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium. Around 160 pilots and flight attendants, all slots and two Airbus A320s were transferred to Brussels Airlines and flight operations ceased on October 27, 2017. It was planned that the remaining three Airbus A320s should be assigned to the new Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics in Spain .
At the beginning of November 2017, SHS Aviation BV, the Dutch holding company of VLM Airlines , took over two Airbus A320s and the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium. The AOC and the aircraft were used to set up the independent, Brussels-based airline VLM Airlines (2017) , which, in contrast to the original VLM Airlines, was active in the area of ACMI leasing .
