European Air Transport NV / SA (EAT) was a Belgian cargo airline . The subsidiary of Deutsche Post AG , which was dissolved in 2010 and taken over by European Air Transport Leipzig GmbH (EAT Leipzig) , mainly carried out freight flights for the postal subsidiary DHL in Europe, but also chartered for British Airways World Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo .

history

The airline was founded in 1971 by the two pilots Pirlot de Corbion and Dessain and started its air taxi service in the same year with two aircraft, a Beechcraft Queen Air and a Gardan Horizon . In the period that followed, EAT expanded and in 1985 entered into a contractual relationship with DHL Worldwide Express . The collaboration between EAT and DHL was so successful that DHL decided in 1986 to integrate the airline into the DHL Group, and EAT became the main cargo carrier for DHL in Europe and Africa. On January 19, 1993, EAT became a member of IATA and in the same year received permission to transport dangerous goods and live animals. With the takeover of DHL by Deutsche Post, which was completed in 2002, EAT became a subsidiary of Deutsche Post AG. At the end of 2009 it employed over 500 people.

In 2008 the airline handed over most of the aircraft maintenance to EAT Leipzig at Leipzig / Halle Airport . EAT Leipzig, which initially did not have its own aircraft fleet, initially only took on the maintenance of the cargo planes. The airline remained based in Brussels until 2010 , so that until then the Belgian aircraft registration was also retained. In 2010, EAT Leipzig was approved as an aviation company.

After the aircraft inventory was transferred to other companies, European Air Transport NV was dissolved due to the merger agreement of February 10, 2010. The company was taken over by European Air Transport Leipzig GmbH and merged with it. Airline codes and call signs were transferred to EAT Leipzig. A branch office of EAT Leipzig will remain in Brussels, which will only take over maintenance work on a small scale.

fleet

At the turn of the year 2009/2010, the aircraft that had previously been from the Irish airline Air Contractors were transferred back to them. In March 2010, 11 cargo planes followed, which were transferred to EAT Leipzig.

Before the aircraft were transferred - an Airbus A300 was scrapped at the beginning of December 2009, three more went to air contractors - the fleet of European Air Transport Brussels consisted of 26 freight aircraft in November 2009:
