European Air Transport Leipzig ( EAT Leipzig or EAT-LEJ for short ) is a cargo airline based in Schkeuditz and based at Leipzig / Halle Airport . It is a subsidiary of Deutsche Post AG .

history

EAT aircraft hangar with office building

European Air Transport Leipzig was founded in November 2005 and after the relocation of the European air freight hub of DHL from Brussels to Leipzig / Halle in spring 2008 took over a large part of the tasks of the former DHL Operations BV in Brussels. It currently employs more than 250 pilots and 430 employees, and Markus Otto, Vice President Aviation Germany, is the managing director.

EAT Leipzig initially only took on the maintenance of DHL's own cargo planes from European Air Transport , DHL Air UK and Aerologic . After European Air Transport NV had transferred its aircraft from the Irish airline Air Contractors back to them at the beginning of 2010, the takeover of the remaining eleven ready-to-fly aircraft by EAT Leipzig marked the end of the complete relocation of DHL's main European air hub from Brussels, which began in November 2007 Leipzig / Halle. On the basis of the merger agreement of February 10, 2010, European Air Transport NV was taken up by EAT Leipzig and merged with it. At the same time, the shareholders' meeting decided to change the company's purpose to "operate all business and facilities related to aviation and its promotion, in particular leasing, renting, leasing , charter , acquisition, sale, operation, management, maintenance, financing and insurance of aircraft and aircraft parts as well the transport of people, crews, goods and mail on national and international routes ”. Airline codes and call signs have been adopted from the transferring company.

The eleven Belgian aircraft received German aircraft registration numbers in March 2010 , meaning that EAT Leipzig no longer functions only as an aircraft maintenance company, but also as a cargo airline . The operating license required for this was granted to the company by the Federal Aviation Office on March 31, 2010.

EAT Leipzig's main workstation is the 30-meter-high aircraft hangar at Leipzig / Halle Airport with a floor space of 232 by 98 meters. With its total usable area of 27,460 m², it offers space for two aircraft of the largest civil airliner, the Airbus A380, or a correspondingly larger number of smaller aircraft. In addition, EAT Leipzig operates a filling station specifically for the needs of the DHL hub , which has three tanks with a capacity of 3,800 m³ each. The Post's own tank truck fleet is operated by Turbo Fuel Services Sachsen GbR . EAT Leipzig also supports other airlines in the areas of flight and ground operations .

The company is both an approved company for the maintenance of aircraft and their components according to Annex II (Part-145) of Regulation (EC) No. 2042/2003 of the Commission of November 20, 2003 ( EASA Part 145) and an approved air carrier according to of Regulation (EC) no. 1008/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 September 2008 .
