The Stuttgarter Flugdienst (also SFD Aviation ) was a German charter airline based in Stuttgart and based at Stuttgart Airport .
history
The Stuttgart flight service, founded in 1956, initially carried out sightseeing flights and dealt with aerial photographs. The business aviation initially did not matter. In the 1960s, a Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander was procured to cover this developing area. Contact Air was founded in 1974 and the first jets in the form of aircraft types from the Learjet series and a Dassault Falcon 10 followed . During the 1980s, the jet fleet was replaced by more efficient turbo props from the BAe Jetstream and Beechcraft King Air series.
Until the bankruptcy, SFD belonged to the Eheim group of companies, as did Contact Air Technik. When Contact Air developed into a scheduled airline in the 1990s, SFD spun off as an independent charter airline in order to serve the revitalized business and executive charter market. The SFD had filed for bankruptcy in May 2019.
In August 2019, the charter airline Atlas Air Service took over the business operations and employees of the insolvent SFD.
Services
SFD mainly performed charter flights and aircraft maintenance . At Stuttgart Airport, the SFD was located in the General Aviation area, where it had its own technology base with "line maintenance" in accordance with Part-145.
fleet
As of October 2018, the fleet of the Stuttgarter Flugdienst consisted of only two aircraft (previously twelve), which, however, were not owned by SFD, but belonged to other companies outside of aviation:
Aircraft type | number | ordered | Remarks | Seats |
