The Aero Flight GmbH & Co. Luftverkehrs KG was a German airline based in Oberursel .

history

On February 26, 2004, Aero Lloyd Flugservice GmbH, a subsidiary of Aero Lloyd , was converted into Aero Flight GmbH & Co. Luftverkehrs-KG . After Aero Lloyd went bankrupt in October 2003, Aero Flight took over 300 employees and flight operations. Aero Flight was founded by Bogomir Gradisnik, Miso Aksmanovic and Gerhard Walter.

In July 2005 Aero Flight Airline was a partner of the Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt and had painted an Airbus A320-200 with the registration D-ARFE with the lettering and the red eagle of Eintracht. This wanted to be effective in advertising u. a. the football team fly to more distant away games, but this no longer happened due to the subsequent bankruptcy. The aircraft was then repainted again.

On October 31, 2005, the Federal Aviation Office announced that the operating license for Aero Flight had not been extended for the time being. The reason given was economic reasons, Aero Flight had not proven the necessary legal requirements. As of November 1, 2005, the airline was no longer allowed to carry passengers, mail or cargo. Takeover negotiations with the investment company CS Ltd. and the Icelandic Avion Group failed for the time being. On November 25, 2005, Aero Flight filed an appeal with the Bad Homburg v. d. Height a bankruptcy petition asked.

insolvency

Aero Flight no longer had sufficient capital resources to operate the 2005/06 winter flight schedule. When examining the financial situation, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt came to the conclusion that a renewed operating license could not be granted without additional funding. The investment firm CS Ltd. under the direction of Victor Tsopa (Vice President of Air Moldova , former Minister of Transport of Moldova ) surprisingly appeared as a new investor in October. At first it seemed as if the company was saved. However, it turned out that Tsopa had no financial resources and, despite efforts, was unable to provide the necessary funds. As a result of Tsopa's public announcement that the airline would change its business model and only lease planes in the future, Aero Flight broke off its entire winter flight business. The contract with Tsopa was canceled by the previous shareholders of Aero Flight after three weeks and a new investor, the Icelandic Avion Group , started talking. However, the takeover negotiations with the Avion Group failed due to a lack of timely commitment from a partner of Aero Flight. Other investors were not financially strong enough or not ready to invest in the airline.

The Icelandic Avion Group took over the insolvent Aero Flight under the new AOC and resumed flight operations in the summer of 2006 under the name Star XL ; the latter operated under its new name, XL Airways Germany , up to and including summer 2012 . On December 27, 2012, however, this airline also had to file for bankruptcy at the Darmstadt District Court.
