Air Moldova is the national airline of the Republic of Moldova , based in Chișinău and based at Chișinău Airport . It has been owned by the Civil Aviation Group , whose investors are from Moldova and the Romanian Blue Air , since September 2018 .
history
Air Moldova was founded on January 12, 1993 by a presidential decision and emerged from the former Soviet Aeroflot division. It was not until 1995, when the home airport in Chișinău was given the status of an international airport, that regular flight connections with Tupolev Tu-154 could be taken up. Due to the difficult supply situation, including kerosene , only flights to Tel Aviv were carried out.
At the turn of the millennium , the situation improved and with the Embraer EMB 120 and ERJ 145 aircraft from western production were leased for the first time . Flights to Western Europe were also offered and a new corporate design was introduced.
With the receipt of two Airbus A320-200s in 2003/2004, more passengers could be carried. On July 13, 2004, Air Moldova became an IATA member .
In 2010 Air Moldova received the first Embraer 190 , which it had ordered directly from Embraer .
Investigations by the Moldovan public prosecutor's office against the airline have been ongoing since 2019. There is a suspicion of money laundering in the context of privatization in 2018. Mid-October 2019, two aircraft and 38 million dollars seized.
