History and destinations

Former Northern Air Charter metro after cessation of operations for Bin Air . The aircraft still bears the Northern Air Charter livery, only the title has been removed.

The Northern Air Charter was founded on August 21, 1991 by its owner, the former naval pilot Heiko Harms at Flensburg Airport. Michael Bittner took over the role of flight operations manager.

The company was mainly active in cargo air traffic and transported components between the plants in Flensburg and Edinburgh for the mobile phone manufacturer Nokia . Charter and sightseeing flights as well as pilot training were also part of the Northern Air Charter portfolio. In 1999 one could achieve a turnover of 7.5 million DM with the commitment of 17 employees. As a result of this result, plans were made to increase both the size of the fleet and the number of employees, while Nokia announced the Europe-wide delivery of mobile phones built in Flensburg by Northern Air Charter.

In 2000, Northern Air Charter, which now has 30 employees, announced the establishment of infrastructure to maintain its own fleet. Until now, the planes had to be flown to Cologne / Bonn Airport for maintenance , but now three hangars have been built at Flensburg Airport.

In September 2002 it was announced the establishment of connections between Lübeck and Kaliningrad with a machine of the type Metroliner . This step was carried out in accordance with a memorandum passed by the Schleswig-Holstein government . The first flight took place on November 12 of the same year, although the Northern Air Charter never succeeded in transferring this demand air traffic to a regular scheduled connection at fixed times.

The company was dissolved with the opening of insolvency proceedings on April 3, 2003.
