LTS Lufttransport Süd (nickname: wing of the south ) was a German airline.

history

D-AMUR

After the founding meeting of LTS Geschäftsführung AG in August 1983, the airline LTS Lufttransport Süd GmbH & Co Kg was founded in December 1983 as a subsidiary and with financial support from LTU in Düsseldorf . Flight operations began in May 1984 with the Boeing B757-200 aircraft type, registered for the first time in Germany, with the registration D-AMUR (MSN 23118) in white and blue livery. In the month after next, on July 12, 1984, at around 8:00 p.m. local time after landing at Munich-Riem Airport , the aircraft was so badly damaged by a hailstorm that it had to be repaired by Boeing in Seattle by March 1985 .

D-AMUS

In this repair measure, with 20 million marks the largest single item in the overall balance of the hail disaster of Munich represented, not just the landing flaps had (Engl. Flaps ) and the spoilers (Engl. Spoiler ), but also the entire upper airframe (Engl. Crown Area ) can be replaced. The second aircraft with the registration D-AMUS (MSN 23119), which had been ordered from Boeing together with the D-AMUR on August 25, 1983, was handed over to LTU on February 11, 1985 and then leased to LTS.

D-AMUT

The third aircraft in the Boeing 757-200 series, equipped with two RB211-535C engines, like the two sister models before, was ordered from Boeing on January 17, 1986 and delivered on December 8, 1986 as D-AMUT (MSN 23651) . In the following year 1987 control of the economic fortunes of LTS was taken over by LTU and in November 1987 the name of the airline was renamed LTU-Süd International Airways.
