history

The Jetair Aviation Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH was in January 26, 1982 Munich founded. The original plan provided for the start of charter flights with three used Boeing 737s at the beginning of the 1983 summer season. This goal could not be achieved due to a lack of funding. In the spring of 1984 the company transformed into a stock corporation . The IPO brought the necessary capital to purchase a Boeing 727-100 from Air Panama Internacional . The aircraft was transferred to Brussels in May 1984 and adapted there to meet the needs of society. Since in June 1984 there was still no operating license from the Federal German Ministry of Transport , the aircraft was initially registered in Belgium and briefly operated by the airline Sobelair .

In October 1984 Jetair received the German operating license and started charter flights from Munich-Riem Airport. The financial means were lacking for the planned purchase of a second Boeing 727 . Instead, another Boeing 727-100 was leased from the American airline Air 1 in the spring of 1985 . The rented machine was used from April 12, 1985 for the duration of the summer season. Cost-covering flight operations were not achieved. By autumn, the company's economic situation had deteriorated to such an extent that Jetair had to file for bankruptcy in December 1985 .
