WDL Aviation is a German charter airline based in Cologne and based at Cologne / Bonn Airport . It is a subsidiary of the LF Verwaltungs GmbH, which belongs to the Zeitfracht Group, and operates under the brand name German Airways .
history
The airline was founded as WDL Flugdienst in 1974. The predecessor, founded by Theodor Wüllenkemper on July 29, 1955 , received the second operating license from an airline in the Federal Republic of Germany after Lufthansa. The airline's headquarters were in Essen , while Essen-Mülheim Airport served as the base .
For several years, WDL Aviation connected the headquarters in Toulouse with the Hamburg-Finkenwerder and Bristol-Filton locations for Airbus in the passenger factory traffic . In addition, she carried out medical flights with two Learjets, for example for Royal Jet .
Up until 2011, WDL Aviation also chartered three Fokker F-27 cargo flights for companies such as TNT Express , UPS and Farnair Europe.
WDL Aviation was taken over by the Berlin logistics company Zeitfracht on October 1st, 2017 . The latter had already taken over the freight division of the insolvent Air Berlin with Leisure Cargo . The aim of the measure is to set up a network for light express freight. WDL Aviation has been a member of the Federation of German Airlines (BDF) since 2018 . In mid-April 2018, the airline also became a member of IATA .
From October 2019, WDL Aviation will fly together with Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter mbH (LGW) with an independent Air Operator Certificate (AOC) under the brand of the parent company German Airways.
Services
WDL Aviation operates charter flights and flights for other airlines such as British Airways , easyjet , Air France , KLM , Germanwings and SAS Scandinavian Airlines as part of wet lease contracts .
