history

North 262 of Tempelhof Airways, Tempelhof Airport, 1987

Like Air Berlin , Berlin European UK , Berlin Air or Pan Am Express, its creation is linked to the city of Berlin's allied status until 1990. The company flew from the old city airport Berlin-Tempelhof since the beginning of 1982 .

Initially limited to charter flights from some Berlin tour operators, in 1985 the company entered regular service and served flight destinations and the like. a. to Paderborn ( Paderborn / Lippstadt Airport ) or Dortmund , later also to Hamburg or Brussels . Hamburg and Brussels served as feeders for aircraft taking off there into the route network of American Airlines . The company's most successful year was 1989 with 100 employees and 100,000 passengers. The abruptly changing market situation with reunification led to the bankruptcy of Tempelhof Airways in 1991. Unlike Air Berlin , they did not manage to transform themselves into an airline under German law in time. Due to the uncertain route rights as a US company, important investors were lost in order to continue operating as a regional company from Tempelhof Airport.
