Volkswagen AirService GmbH is an air transport service provider based at Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG .

The airline previously registered on the Cayman Islands as Lion Air Services has a German air transport operator certificate with a maximum take-off weight of over 10 tons. The re-registration of the company became necessary due to the new EU regulation on the “non-commercial operation of technically complex motor-powered aircraft” (“Part-NCC”).

Area of responsibility

According to a report by Spiegel , in addition to flights with a business background from Wolfsburg to the various production facilities around the world, weekend shuttle services are also carried out for high-level employees, above all "all corporate board members, many board members of the twelve brands and a number of general representatives according to their contracts ".

The company was incorporated in the Cayman Islands from 1995 to 2017. According to Volkswagen, this was not for tax reasons, but for safety reasons, as the owner of the aircraft was not immediately recognizable. All eight machines have been registered in Germany again since November 2017.

fleet

As of July 2018, the Volkswagen AirService fleet consists of ten business aircraft .

Due to the “ Dieselgate ” emissions scandal that became known in September 2015, VW decided to downsize its fleet. Only one Airbus A319CJ was sold. This went to Lufthansa Technik , which converted it for use as an open-skies observation aircraft for flight readiness of the Federal Ministry of Defense until 2019, where it now bears the military registration number 15 + 03 .
