history
1950
In 1953, when Lufthansa was re-established in the western part of Hamburg Airport, the first cornerstone was laid for the technical basis. The first double hall with space for three four-engine fan guns was already in place in March 1955. In 1957 an office building and the engine overhaul with electroplating were added.
1960
In 1960, with the beginning of the jet age, Lufthansa built a maintenance base at Frankfurt Airport to station its long-haul aircraft there. In 1962 a test bench for jet engines is built in Hamburg, as is the world's first noise protection hangar. The business is also expanding to external customers. The US aviation authority FAA grants Lufthansa permission to overhaul the engines and aircraft of American airlines.
1970
Despite the oil crisis, incoming orders reach double-digit growth rates. The reason for this is that Lufthansa has grown into a highly valued technology company. The largest increase comes from an alliance of Lufthansa, Air France , Sabena and Alitalia , the Atlas Group. In 1976 the first Boeing 747 is serviced in Hamburg.
1980
At the end of the 1980s, a new hangar for up to three wide-body aircraft was built in Hamburg. A paint shop is also being built in accordance with the latest work and environmental protection guidelines.
1990
In 1994, Lufthansa Technik AG, an independent wholly-owned subsidiary of Lufthansa, emerged from the technology division of Lufthansa.
2000
In December 2007 the new maintenance hangar for the Airbus A380 was opened in Frankfurt . The first Airbus A380 was delivered to Lufthansa on May 19, 2010.
The new EUR 50 million engine overhaul hall for the CFM family was opened at the beginning of 2009 . The new hall expands the production area by 9,000 m², the logistics area by 1,500 m² and the office and service area by 9,000 m². The new hall increases the capacity of the engines to be overhauled from around 320 to over 400 per year. Approx. 700 people will be employed in the new complex.
In 2009 the company founded Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International (LTMI) based in Frankfurt, which also includes Condor / Cargo Technik (CCT). Around 1000 people will be employed at LTMI. She takes care of the maintenance of customer aircraft outside the Lufthansa Passage.
2010
In mid-2012, the aircraft painting department in Hamburg was closed. The aircraft painting will in future be carried out at other Lufthansa Technik group locations. In return, the VIP business in the Hamburg plant will be expanded.
At the end of May 2017, the management decided to close the aircraft overhaul, which has been located in Hamburg for 60 years , and have it carried out at other locations of the group.
