history

The Volkswagen OTLG, as you can find it today, only came about through a series of consolidation measures.

In 1966 there were 96 wholesalers who acted as intermediaries between 3500 retailers and the Volkswagen plant, today deliveries to Germany are made from 7 distribution centers.

In 1972 Audi built seven sales centers (including in Dieburg , Bremen and Ingolstadt ). In the following years from 1973 to 1976, the Volkswagen and Audi sales centers were merged and the number was reduced from 96 to 22 locations. The period up to 2000 was still characterized by closings and mergers of various locations, which necessitated changes to the area and a new distribution of tasks.

On October 1, 2003, Volkswagen OTLG was founded from the remaining 12 locations ( Norderstedt , Wedemark , Cologne , Ratingen , Emsdetten , Unna , Dieburg , Würzburg , Ludwigsburg , Munich , Berlin and Baunatal ).

This range is supplemented by wheels and tires, branded accessories, workshop equipment and operating materials . Accordingly, Volkswagen OTLG is a full-range supplier and offers retailers a total of over 400,000 items. In this context, the increasing variety of parts presents Volkswagen OTLG with ever new challenges, which the company is addressing with projects such as the DNO D, among others.

Major project "DNO D"

With the founding of Volkswagen OTLG, there was an increasing need for a logistical reorganization, for which strategic planning had already started in 2002. In this context, the abbreviation DNO D stands for Depotnetzoptimierung Deutschland. Until the start of DNO D, the logistical processing within Volkswagen OTLG took place in the historically grown structures and reached its limits for various reasons.

The following planning premises were derived from this in advance:

  • Two daily deliveries to all service partners
  • High level of service (98%)
  • Five-brand capability (integration of the Seat and Škoda brands )
  • Number of dealers per location of at least 400 to 500 companies

In the course of implementing these requirements, a final consolidation of the remaining twelve distribution centers to seven became necessary. These are located in Norderstedt, Cologne, Dieburg, Ludwigsburg, Munich, Ludwigsfelde and Baunatal. The capacities in the existing distribution centers also had to be expanded or expanded. Only in Berlin was an expansion technically not possible and thus required the construction of a complete distribution center near Berlin in Ludwigsfelde.

New construction of the Brandenburg distribution center

With the successful implementation of the project, the following improvements could be achieved:

  • Delivery to almost 5000 partners possible (previously almost 3000)
  • Area-wide offer of the second same-day delivery
  • Reduction of the driving distance (by 25%)
  • Reduction of emissions (by 32%)
  • Integration of workshop disposal
  • Establishment of product-specific storage technology

From 2007 you will find the Volkswagen OTLG in its current structure.
