MAN Latin America Indústria e Comércio de Veículos Ltda. is a truck maker based in Brazil's Sao Paulo . The company belongs to the MAN Group and operated under the name Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus until 2008 . The Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus brand will continue to be run as “Volkswagen”, even after the company now operates under the name “MAN Latin America”. Almost every third truck on the streets of Brazil comes from MAN Latin America. This makes the company the clear market leader. In 2008, 56,000 trucks and buses were built. The factory in Resende employs 6,000 people.

The beginnings of the brand go back to Simca , who founded its Brazilian subsidiary Simca do Brasil in 1958 . In 1966, Chrysler took over 92% and a year later Simca do Brasil completely. Chrysler has been producing Dodge trucks at the plant since 1969 .

In 1979 Volkswagen AG initially took over 67% of what is now Chrysler Motors do Brasil Ltda. trading company and increased its stake again to 100% a year later. In 2000, the truck and bus division officially became part of the Volkswagen commercial vehicles brand from VW.

In November 1996, today's main plant was opened in Resende, Brazil, which is around 150 km from Rio de Janeiro and 250 km from São Paulo. The plant in Mexico was opened in 2004 and, in 2007, the third plant in South Africa started manufacturing trucks .

In 2009 MAN took over the truck and bus division. The main sales markets are Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, the remaining South and Central American countries, as well as Africa and the Middle East.
