The Falcon 8X is a business jet from the French manufacturer Dassault Aviation , which has been delivered since October 2016. The machine is optimized for very long ranges. As the successor to the Falcon 7X , it competes with the G550 and G650 from Gulfstream and the Global 7000 and 8000 from Bombardier .
history
Development began in 2011 under the project name M1000 . The Falcon 8X represents a further development of the 7X, whereby the aerodynamics have been improved, the fuselage stretched and the fuel capacity increased. The project was presented to the public on May 19, 2014 at the EBACE . The first flight took place on February 6, 2015, in 2016 the certification followed, on October 5, 2016 the first aircraft was delivered to the Greek customer Amjet Executive . The sales price is expected to be around US $ 58 million.
construction
The construction is based on the design of the 7X. However, the wing was trimmed for aerodynamic efficiency and with the help of experience from the operation of the 7X it was about 270 kg lighter. To further reduce drag, the static stability has been reduced. The fuselage was lengthened by 1.1 m to create additional space for the cabin and an additional 1,300 kg of fuel. Three more powerful PW307D engines from Pratt & Whitney with 29.9 kN each are provided for the drive.
The aircraft has a fly-by-wire - flight control system . The cockpit can optionally be equipped with head-up displays from Elbit Systems . The aircraft is aerodynamically designed so that it can fly the steep approaches (approx. 5 ° glide slope instead of the usual 3 °) of London City Airport and is approved for this.
Technical specifications
With its performance data, the Falcon 8X is above that of its predecessor 7X , but below that of the direct competing models Gulfstream G650 and Global 7000/8000, which achieve a range of around 2,000 kilometers at higher speeds (Mach 0.85). However, the fuel consumption of the other types is higher, despite the three-engine version of the Falcon, and the French design has an advantage with its comparatively high maximum possible landing mass (only 5 tons below the maximum take-off weight), as several short, successive sections of the route are flown without refueling can.

Users
In addition to being used as a business jet, there is also a military version for electronic reconnaissance . This SIGINT version is called Archange (Archangel), a French acronym for Avion de Renseignement à Charge utile de Nouvelle Generation and equipped with a Thales reconnaissance system. France plans to purchase three aircraft.
