The Austrian Disabled Sports Association , or ÖBSV for short, was founded on October 22, 1958 in Vienna and is the umbrella organization for all disabled and disabled sports clubs and associations in Austria. The ÖBSV serves as the interface between the individual national organizations. These organizations coordinate the concerns of the clubs in the respective federal states and also organize state championships.
tasks
Popular sport
The promotion of popular sport is the top priority at the ÖBSV: through basic work in the associations and clubs, in the competence committees, with trial weeks and sports camps, introductory courses and information events. A membership in the ÖBSV brings many advantages with all these offers.
Sports development
The competence committees and state associations are the sport development units for popular sport. The focus is on advice on sports, discovery of special abilities and talents, introduction to specific sports and national competitions, support for national classification through to cadre in a specific sport. The ÖBSV organizes over 150 sporting events annually, such as sporting events in schools or rehabilitation centers, disabled sport weeks, training courses, sporting festivals, tournaments, Austrian championships and Austrian state championships. All athletes in the ÖBSV have some form of disability themselves, which means that a very valuable exchange of experiences takes place in the ÖBSV.
In around one hundred clubs across Austria, the athletes support technically competent experts as well as tried and tested training programs in learning a sport. Regardless of whether the disability exists from birth or occurred later: the ÖBSV develops sport for all age, disability and ability groups - from young to old, in six disability groups in around twenty sports.
Elite sport
From beginners to world-class athletes - the ÖBSV is there for everyone. As part of top-class sport, around 25 major international sporting events are attended every year with female athletes. For European championships and world championships, the ÖBSV takes over the financing of the secondments in addition to special preparation courses.
