International Blind Sports Federation

The International Blind Sports Federation ( IBSA ) is the international sports association for the blind and visually impaired. The non-profit organization was founded in Paris in 1981 and is based in Bonn . Its aim is to promote the participation of blind and visually impaired people in sport. The IBSA is a founding member of the International Paralympic Committee .

The German member of the IBSA is the German Disabled Sports Association . Austria is represented by the Austrian Disabled Sports Association , Switzerland by the Plusport Disabled Sports Organization .

The activities of IBSA include the following sports (as of April 2018): bowling , soccer , weightlifting , goalball , judo , bowling , athletics , chess , shooting , swimming , table ball and goalball .

From 2003 to 2015 the IBSA World Championships (IBSA World Games) were held every four years . This event first took place in 1998 in Madrid (Spain). There will be no IBSA World Championships in 2019 because no applicant country was able to host all competitions. The world championships should take place again in 2023.

Under the direction of IBSA, there are also continental championships as well as regional championships in individual sports.
