The Dassault Falcon 2000 (originally called Falcon X ) is a business jet from the French company Dassault Aviation from the Falcon series . It had its first flight in 1993 and has been delivered to customers since 1995. Technically, it is a downsized twin-engine version of the Dassault Falcon 900 with a shorter range. The Falcon 2000S and Falcon 2000LXS variants are still in production.

development

Dassault developed the Falcon 2000 under the project name Falcon X in collaboration with Alenia Aeronautica from 1989 to close the gap between the small Falcon 50EX and the large Falcon 900 , which were the only ones after production of the Falcon 10 and Falcon 20 models in 1988 and 1990 respectively Dassault business jets were. Four years later, on March 4, 1993, the first flight took place and series production began in November 1994. In February 1995, delivery to customers finally started. The monthly production rate was given in 1999 with two aircraft. By the end of 2008 a total of 430 Falcon 2000s of all variants had been delivered. From 2013 the new version 2000S was delivered.

Technically, the Falcon 2000 is a scaled-down Falcon 900 with only two engines. Although the Falcon 2000 has almost exactly the same length as the Falcon 900 at around 20.2 m, the interior is around 20% smaller. This can be traced back to the completely changed aerodynamics due to the omission of the stabilizing third engine, which made a longer rear end necessary. From the outside, this can be seen primarily from the fact that the Falcon 2000 has three fewer windows than the Falcon 900 while being the same length. On the side of advantages, the configuration with a smaller interior space and only two engines enables, in addition to lower acquisition costs, above all, significantly lower fuel consumption and thus correspondingly reduced operating costs.

The interior of the Falcon 2000 has exactly the same fuselage cross-section as the original Falcon 900 model, which, with a height of 1.88 m, enables continuous standing height. In contrast to the original model, the cabin is, with a length of 7.98 m, without the luggage compartment and cockpit, however, significantly shorter. Depending on the configuration, the cabin can accommodate eight to twelve people in the usual business jet equipment; with very close seating in rows of three it is also possible to accommodate up to 19 passengers. The externally accessible luggage compartment is just under 4 m² in size and can be loaded with up to 725 kg. The cockpit is designed for two-man operation and has a Pro-Line 4 glass cockpit from Rockwell Collins with four CRT - EFIS displays. A heads -up display was also offered as an option .

The Falcon 2000 is powered by two CFE738-1-1B from General Electric Aviation and Garrett (now part of Honeywell International ), each providing 25.46 kN of thrust. All Falcon 2000s built since 1999 are also equipped with a thrust reverser , which shortens the landing distance. The engine nacelles, along with the tail section of the fuselage, are part of Alenia's production.

Falcon 2000EX

The Falcon 2000EX is a further development of the Falcon 2000 with an increased range. In addition to the new PW308C engines from Pratt & Whitney , which have a thrust increase of over 20% to 31.13 kN and a higher fuel efficiency, this was achieved primarily through a 31% increase in fuel capacity. Overall, the range could be increased by around 1250 km to around 7,040 km under IFR reserves according to NBAA. In order to cope with the increased mass, selective reinforcements had to be made on the chassis and the brakes, which are supplied by Messier Bugatti (part of Safran ). The first flight of a so modified Falcon 2000 took place on October 25, 2001. In March 2003 the EASA and the FAA granted the approval, and in May of the same year the first machine was delivered.

Falcon 2000EX EASy

Falcon 2000EX EASy refers to Falcon 2000EX that are equipped with the more modern EASy glass cockpit from Honeywell International . The first flight was made on January 29, 2003, and the Falcon 2000EX EASy was certified in June of the following year.

Falcon 2000DX

The Falcon 2000DX was designed from October 2005 to replace the basic Falcon 2000 in production. Technically, the DX largely corresponds to the EX, in particular the more powerful engines and the revised cockpit have been adopted. However, the tank capacity was reduced by 900 kg, which in turn reduced the range to 6,019 km. The first flight took place in June 2007, and EASA and FAA granted certification on September 19 and October 3 of the same year. The first Falcon 2000DX was handed over to a customer in March 2008.

Falcon 2000LX

The Falcon 2000LX is a Falcon 2000EX equipped with blended winglets from Aviation Partners Inc. (API), which increases the wingspan by 2.06 m and improves efficiency by around 5%. The maximum range at a speed of Mach 0.8 increases from 7,040 to 7,400 km. The LX flew for the first time in spring 2007 and was approved by the EASA and FAA on April 23 and 30, 2009 respectively. In 2010 the LX replaced the EX, which is no longer manufactured. Existing EX models can be retrofitted with the winglets and are then identical to the newly built LX models.

Falcon 2000 MRA Albatross

The Dassault Albatros is the planned version of a sea recon based on the Falcon LXS for the Aéronavale . As part of the AVion de Surveillance et d'Intervention MARitime (AVSIMAR) project, it is intended to replace the outdated Falcon 200 Gardian in the French Navy from 2023 . For this purpose, a FLIR , a radar , four under wing stations and four terminals for operators will be equipped.

Falcon 2000S

Falcon 2000S with blended winglets

In May 2011 Dassault announced a new version of the Falcon 2000, the Falcon 2000S, at the EBACE , which is to replace the 2000DX as an entry-level model. Approval was planned for the end of 2012, the first delivery for the beginning of 2013. Thanks to the use of blended winglets and an improved variant of the PW308C engine, which in particular contains a new combustion chamber, the efficiency and range should be increased slightly to 6200 km compared to the Falcon 2000DX. The nitrogen emissions should drop by as much as 20%. Due to the flight performance, the 2000S version can also be used at airports such as London City , which require a steeper approach angle.

In the cockpit, the EASy-2 glass cockpit jointly developed by Dassault and Honeywell is used for the first time. The interior was completely redesigned by BMW Group DesignworksUSA , who also designed an interior for the Falcon 7X . The first flight of this version took place on February 17, 2011 from Bordeaux-Mérignac airport .

The Falcon 2000LXS has been available as a version with a longer range since October 2012.
