The aerokurier is a monthly German-language aviation magazine with a focus on general aviation . Together with the magazines Flug Revue and Aviation Classics , which deal with commercial civil aviation, military aviation and space travel or historical aircraft and aviation history, it is part of Motor Presse Stuttgart . The Aerokurier is the official organ of the German Aero Club and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association Germany (AOPA).

history

Aerokurier was founded in 1957 under the name Deutscher Aero Club as a member magazine of the largest German aviation association. The first edition with a volume of 36 pages in the format 28 × 21 centimeters (A4) appeared in April 1957. WA Grindberg was the first editor-in-chief. The booklet was published by Buersche Druckerei GmbH in Gelsenkirchen, the subscription price for non-members was 1.50 DM. The 6/1962 issue saw the first major revision of the layout, and from then on the booklet had colored images on the cover. The editor-in-chief was taken over by Wolfgang Wagner, the magazine was published by Verlag Dr. Neufang KG.

From 1964 the magazine appeared under the title deutscher aerokurier . The format also changed and was now 23 × 32 centimeters ( DIN C4 ). With the change, the content also changed. Civil aviation, military aviation, technology and space travel as well as aviation history were given a permanent place in the front part of the booklet, which was followed by aviation with gliding, motorized flight , model flying , parachute and balloon sports . The association news of the DAeC has since been inserted into the magazine on separate colored pages. The German aerokurier thus developed from the classic association magazine to an independent aviation magazine. For issue 1/1976 the "German" was dropped in the title, the magazine appeared from then on as "aerokurier".

Another layout change was made in December 1976. They returned to the 28 × 21 centimeter format and revised the fonts, typesetting and cover. In January 1978 Rolf Dörpinghaus replaced Wolfgang Wagner as editor-in-chief. From the end of the 1070s, the magazine focused on general aviation and aviation, while large-scale aviation became less and less of a topic. For the first time, the developments in the emerging ultralight aviation are also reflected in the contributions. In 1987 the editorial team moved from Gelsenkirchen to the Aerospace House in Bonn.

With the 1/1990 issue, the title “aerokurier” was accompanied by the claim “The International Aviation and Space Journal”, with which commercial aviation and space travel were once again a focus in the issue. Three months later, Volker K. Thomalla took over the editor-in-chief. In 1993 the magazine changed from Verlag Dr. New start to Motor Presse Stuttgart.

In January 1999 the 500th edition of the aerokurier appeared with the title on a gold background, which one issue later gave way to a yellow bar, which has since been the brand color of the issue. During this time, the aerokurier gradually developed into a multifaceted focus magazine for general aviation with all its facets, from powered flight to microlight and glider flight to helicopters and business aviation .

At the end of 2015, Motor Presse Stuttgart relocated its aviation editorial offices from Bonn to Stuttgart. In the course of this, motorcycle editor-in-chief Michael Pfeiffer initially took over the editorial office and later the overall editorial management of the aerospace industry, Lars Reinhold, as editor-in-chief, was responsible for the content and responsibility for aerokurier in terms of press law. Since then, the layout and the content have been carefully further developed, with more attention being paid to the flying experience.

subjects

The content orientation of the aerokurier has changed again and again over the years. In the early years, the viewpoints of the DAeC and its relationship to aviation policy played an important role in the contributions. Furthermore, the classic forms of presentation of an association magazine such as portraits of members, reports on sporting successes and news from the regional associations as well as comments from officials on current topics were found. Reports on aircraft and technology as well as aeronautical know-how were available, but far less dominant than today, where they are the focus of reporting.

In the 70s and 80s the aerokurier saw itself as a magazine for aerospace, whereby commercial aviation, military aviation and space travel were taken into account as well as the branches of general aviation. From the beginning of the 1990s at the latest, the focus was clearly on general aviation with the sub-areas described above. The target group today are mainly active pilots, which is underlined by the claim “The magazine for pilots”. Accordingly, the magazine mainly contains flight test reports on new aircraft, helicopters and gyrocopters, portraits of interesting aviation personalities, travel stories that are intended to encourage people to fly again, and practical contributions from know-how on aviation law to accident analyzes.

In the course of the year, several specials appear in which the topics of maintenance, gliding, flight training, ultralight, avionics, helicopters and business aviation are highlighted. There is also a special on AERO Friedrichshafen and a special on pilot's watches every two years.

Engagements

Aerokurier is a gold sponsor and media partner of the annual AERO trade fair in Friedrichshafen , which is the world's leading trade fair for general aviation.
