The AOPA-Germany - Association of General Aviation e. V. , based in Egelsbach, is the German representation of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and is a member of IAOPA , the international umbrella organization.

The association sees itself as the political advocacy of around 18,000 private and professional pilots in Germany. Activities are directed against the background checks of pilots in accordance with Section 7 of the Aviation Security Act or support airfields in protesting against their threatened closure.

The president is the internationally renowned aviation lawyer Elmar Giemulla from Berlin, the managing director is Michael Erb . At the European level, the association works closely with EASA and is involved in the EU project SESAR , which is researching the basis for a new air traffic control system.

The association regularly informs its members about current topics in the field of general aviation and provides individual assistance with legal problems. It offers further training in aviation in the form of training camps, flight safety courses and refresher seminars.
