Ülo Tuulik
Ülo Tuulik (born February 22, 1940 on the island of Abruka ) is an Estonian writer.
Life
Ülo Tuulik is the twin brother of the Estonian writer Jüri Tuulik († 2014). Both were born on the small Estonian island of Abruka near Saaremaa . Ülo Tuulik studied Estonian Philology at the University of Tartu until 1963 . He then worked as an editor for various literary magazines. From 1986 to 1992 he was Executive Secretary of the Estonian Writers' Union .
Ülo Tuulik's breakthrough came in 1974 with the novel "Sõja jalus" (In the way of war ). In it he describes the forced resettlement of the residents of Saaremaa and the Sõrve peninsula by the German occupation forces in the autumn of 1944. The novel deals with his own fate, as he and his brother were deported from there by the Nazis and could only return to his homeland in summer 1945 .
Tuulik's short story "Eri Klasiga Kielis" ( With Eri Klas in Kiel ) received the 2006 prose prize named after Friedebert Tuglas .
