Incidents
On August 22, 2009, a Cessna T206H overturned when landing in the port of Hamburg . The seaplane touched down with its landing gear extended; the windshield broke and the aircraft was immediately flooded. The pilot was able to free himself from the machine. The two passengers could only be rescued dead by the rescue workers after around 40 minutes. The pilot was in possession of a valid commercial pilot license and worked as a freelancer for Clipper Aviation. At the time of the accident, the pilot had recorded 7141 flying hours in his logbook , of which only 34 were in a seaplane.
As a result of the accident, Clipper Aviation changed the flight operations instructions and checklists , and since that day the seaplane station on the ground has also sent a radio confirmation to the pilot that the wheels have retracted.
A year and a half after the fatal accident, prosecutors brought charges against the pilot. He was sentenced in 2012 in the first instance for negligent homicide to nine months suspended prison sentence. The sentence was converted into a fine on appeal.
