In the 2018 financial year, the group generated annual sales of around 500 with around 3,000 employees at 14 locations in Berlin, Stendal, Potsdam, Frankfurt-Raunheim, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Munich, Hanover, Münster / Osnabrück, Wismar, Erfurt, Stuttgart and Leipzig Million Euros.

history

The Zeitfracht Group was founded by Horst Walter Schröter. He was born in 1927 as the son of a freight company in Stendal . In the years from 1947 onwards, Schröter built on the family's experience in freight forwarding and from 1949 on again operated a regular service between Stendal and Berlin. After the young entrepreneur was expropriated in 1951, he and his family moved to the American sector of Berlin. First he organized the transport of fresh fruit and vegetables from the Grunewald train station to the wholesale market.

The logistics service provider has been operating under the name "Zeitfracht" since 1962. The company transports goods or people nationwide according to timetables with fixed times and conditions. In the course of the 1960s, the company also grew by taking over various forwarding companies such as Heinrich von der Au & Söhne, Fernfracht Berlin, LHS Ladegemeinschaft Hannoversche Spediteure and Lucke Ferntransporte Hameln.

The company logo was created in the early 1970s. In the course of this decade Zeitfracht bought the first trailers from the Krone company and developed standards for swap bodies, swap bodies and swap containers on the basis of the first trucks with air suspension . In addition, the German parcel service DPD started its work on April 1, 1976 at a time when Deutsche Post and Deutsche Bahn still held monopoly positions in parcel distribution. Zeitfracht is one of the eight founding partners; The group sold its shares in DPD Zeitfracht to the French company LaPoste in autumn 2016 .

In the years after reunification in 1989/90, the Zeitfracht Group moved the headquarters of the forwarding division to the original headquarters in Stendal. After a judgment won by Zeitfracht subsidiary Altmark Trans GmbH on the financing of local public transport at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in 2003, the group operates local public transport in the region with the company "Altmarkbus".

The Zeitfracht Group repositioned itself strategically after the sale of the last founding shares to DPD in autumn 2016: The services in the areas of forwarding, logistics and transport were to be expanded and supplemented by a European EXPRESS network. To this end, Zeitfracht acquired the former Air Berlin subsidiary Leisure Cargo, broker for free capacity in the air freight sector, in autumn 2017 , but sold it again in August 2018.

By taking over WDL Aviation GmbH & Co. KG, founded in 1974 and based at Cologne / Bonn Airport, the Zeitfracht group of companies expanded its portfolio in the field of logistics. The WDL-Aviation fleet currently includes four British Aerospace BAe 146 regional jets , which are on the road for companies across Europe. The aircraft each have the capacity to transport the payload of around ten tons of cargo, especially in the general cargo and parcel area. Since March, the WDL has also owned an Embraer E190 .

Zeitfracht took over LGW Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter mbH from Lufthansa on April 1, 2019 . LGW continues to fly with its De Havilland DHC-8-400 fleet under a wet lease agreement for Eurowings .

In July 2019 Zeitfracht took over the majority in OPUS Marine GmbH. OPUS Marine owns eight ships of its own. In the same month Zeitfracht sold the restructured company SHW machine tools.

On August 1, 2019, Zeitfracht took over the KNV group, which had been insolvent since February of the same year, with its locations in Erfurt, Leipzig and Stuttgart. In September 2019, the group took over the Berlin space company PTScientists, which had been insolvent for a month . After successful restructuring, the management team from Planetary Transportation Systems (PTS) took over full responsibility for the company again in January 2020 as part of a management buyout from the Zeitfracht group of companies.

On April 22, 2020, Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW) filed for bankruptcy in self-administration at the Düsseldorf District Court. During the corona pandemic, air traffic also collapsed due to massive travel restrictions. The exclusive partner of LGW then terminated the long-term wet lease contract.

On August 1, 2020, the Zeitfracht Group took over the two Lower Saxon companies First Wise Media GmbH and Jöllenbeck GmbH with over 200 employees. In future, the companies will operate under the name First Wise Zeitfracht. First Wise Media GmbH currently supplies more than 1,800 online and retailers across Europe with electronic products from more than 30 brand manufacturers.
