LTU-Süd (LTU Lufttransport Süd) was a German airline .
history
In November 1987, control of the economic fortunes of the former airline LTS Lufttransport Süd was taken over by LTU and the name of the airline was renamed LTU-Süd International Airways . In order to better meet the airline's growing demand, additional Boeing 757s and Boeing 767s have been ordered for long-haul routes. The new aircraft were given a red and white paint job on delivery to match the color scheme of the parent company LTU. On October 1, 1987, the first aircraft with the new color scheme, a Boeing 757, with the registration D-AMUV (MSN 23928) was delivered to the airline. The drive selected at the time was the latest version of the Rolls-Royce engine of the RB211-535E4 series , which had more power with lower fuel consumption than the predecessor model RB211-535C.
All 3 Boeing 757s with the identification D-AMUR , D-AMUS and D-AMUT , which still carried the white-blue color scheme of the LTS, were also part of the newly founded Spanish charter airline LTE International Airways from October and December 1987 to April 1989 incorporated. The first aircraft model of the Boeing 767-300ER series with Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines was delivered on February 2, 1989. The next two followed in 1989, another in 1992 and the last in 1996. From 1997 to 1998, LTU-Süd, which had been operating relatively independently until then, was integrated into the parent company LTU and the technology was spun off as LTU Aircraft Maintenance GmbH.
