The Spit (English for The Spit ) is an isthmus that connects the Furse Peninsula with the rest of the land mass of Gibbs Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It consists of 50 to 80 m long boulders that rise 1 m above sea level at high tide .

Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it in January 1937 and gave it its descriptive name.
