history

Douglas DC-7 C of TAE, Palma 1967

Trabajos Aéreos y Enlaces ( TAE ) was originally built in 1957 by the shipping company Aznar in Bilbao established to air taxi services with STOL -enabled type machines Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer to Granada offer and other Spanish cities, the then no airport with paved runway had . In addition, in the same year TAE ordered three Percival President and three Fokker F-27 machines , which were to be used in national scheduled services from the beginning of 1959 . The company did not take up scheduled flight operations and canceled all orders.

In 1966, the Aznar shipping company decided to convert the dormant company into a charter airline in order to take part in the rapidly growing holiday travel business. The Bilbao-based Lezama-Leguizamon SA group participated in the project and took over management of the company. At the same time, TAE moved its headquarters to Madrid . The planned purchase of a Lockheed Super Constellation from Air France was rejected at short notice in October 1966, although the machine had already been painted in TAE colors and had received a Spanish registration number . Instead, the company acquired two Douglas DC-7s at the end of 1966 , with which they carried mainly German and British package travelers to Palma de Mallorca from April 1967 . A jet aircraft of the type BAC 1-11 supplemented the fleet in March 1969th The company ceased operations for the first time in February 1970 for financial reasons, but was not dissolved.

In the early 1970s, the Aznar shipping company bought back all of the company's shares and became the sole owner of TAE again . After restructuring and refinancing the company, which is now based in Palma de Mallorca, two Douglas DC-8s were leased long-term from the French Union de Transports Aériens ( UTA ), with which the company resumed operations on April 1, 1973. With around 90 percent of all charter orders, West Germany developed into the most important market, with mainly Düsseldorf being served here . The company also carried out IT charter traffic to Spain from France , Sweden , the Netherlands and Switzerland . In the 1975 financial year TAE carried 142,617 passengers and at the same time put the first of its three Sud Aviation Caravelle leased from Sterling Airways into service. In addition, another Douglas DC-8 was temporarily rented from UTA during the summer season . In order to transport package holidaymakers to Gambia on behalf of German tour operators , TAE opened a connection to Banjul International Airport from Düsseldorf via Gran Canaria Airport on January 12, 1980 .

At the beginning of the 1980s, the second oil crisis caused a severe recession in West Germany, which led to a massive drop in orders and increased competition between the charter airlines. At the same time, the kerosene price increased significantly, and with it the company's operating costs. Due to the overcapacities, TAE decided not to deliver a Douglas DC-8-51 leased from UTA in the same year , even though the machine had already been painted in company colors. On November 28, 1981, TAE ceased operations for economic reasons. The planned resumption of vacation flights failed the following year, whereupon the company was dissolved. In the autumn of 1982, 86 dismissed TAE employees founded the charter airline Hispania Lineas Aéreas, which is also based in Palma de Mallorca, with government funding .
