Binter Canarias is a Spanish regional airline based in Telde on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria . The largest hub is at the associated Gran Canaria airport , the second at Tenerife North Airport .
history
Binter Canarias started operations in 1989 as a subsidiary of Iberia with four Airtech CN-235 aircraft. Initially only Gran Canaria , Tenerife , Fuerteventura and La Palma were served, later Lanzarote and El Hierro were added. La Gomera was added to the flight network in 1999 after the inauguration of the new airport , as did Funchal in Madeira , El Aaiún in the Western Sahara , Lisbon , Milan and Paris . In 2002 Binter was sold by Iberia to a Canarian investor group.
In 1990 Binter carried out a total of 15,553 flights, with which 578,635 passengers were transported. The number of flights increased continuously. In 2003 the number of all flights was 49,217 with 2,267,232 passengers. A peak was reached in 2007 with just over three million passengers, after which the number of passengers fell and has increased again since 2014. In 2017 3.4 million passengers were carried.
The company maintains a number of booking offices and cooperates with the airlines Iberia and Naysa . It has subsidiaries for ground handling , maintenance , air freight and aviation information technology .
The company cooperates with TUIfly , whose passengers are booked on connecting flights of the Binter Canarias in order to reach other islands.

Binter Canarias currently (2020) connects all seven large Canary Islands with their eight airports with each other; In addition, Madeira , Lisbon , the Cape Verde Islands , destinations on the Spanish mainland, Palma de Mallorca and West Africa are served.
