history
Greenland Express
Greenland Express was founded in 2013 as a virtual company by Gert Brask to market flight connections between Greenland and Denmark and have them flown under its own brand identity. Because the company did not have an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), it hired the Dutch Denim Air ACMI to carry out its wet lease flight operations . The Dutch company used a Fokker 100 in the color scheme of the virtual company. Flights on the route from Aalborg (Denmark) to Kangerlussuaq (Greenland) began in June 2014. The connection was completed with scheduled stops in Copenhagen , Keflavík (Iceland) and Narsarsuaq (Greenland). Due to differences between Greenland Express and Denim Air ACMI , flight operations ended after three months in September 2014.
Greenland Express planned to resume the international connection in May 2015 with two wet-leased Airbus A320s and also have domestic flights in Greenland with Let L-410s . Both projects were not implemented. Although flight operations had been inactive for a year and Greenland Express did not have an AOC, the virtual company signed a letter of intent with aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi in September 2015 to lease five brand-new Sukhoi Superjet 100s . The first two machines should be delivered in 2016, the other three by 2018.
Sky Greenland
The virtual company was renamed Sky Greenland at the beginning of January 2016 . Its owner Gert Brask founded another virtual company in the same month with the Danish Artic Airways and at the same time bought the Dutch Denim Air ACMI . A Fokker 100 from this airline was then used in Sky Greenland colors , but primarily on charter flights within Central Europe and not on routes to Greenland. In addition, two Fokker 50s were to be taken over from VLM Airlines in August 2016 and operated by Denim Air ACMI within Greenland for Sky Greenland .
After Denim Air ACMI had to file for bankruptcy in autumn 2016 and lost their AOC, Sky Greenland no longer appeared. The website of this company is also no longer accessible. Instead, you get to the website of the virtual sister company Artic Airways , which has also not been active since 2016.
