Robert Muchembled

Robert Muchembled (born March 4, 1944 in Liévin ) is a French historian and professor of modern history at the University of Paris-Nord .

Life

Robert Muchembled completed his studies in history in 1985 with a doctoral thesis on " Violence and society: Mentalities and behavior in the Artois 1400–1660" ("Violence et Société. Comportements populaires et mentalités en Artois de 1400 à 1660").

He taught first as a teacher at the École normal later as a research assistant at the University of Lille . From 1986 he took over a professorship for modern history at the University of Paris-Nord. His research interests include social history , the history of crime , sexuality, superstition, and morals.
