Career

society

David González started his career in 2001 with his hometown club Atlético Nacional and moved to Independiente Medellín in 2002 . At the age of 20, he became the youngest goalkeeper in the history of the Colombian league to win the national championship. In 2006 he then moved to Deportivo Cali , one of the best Colombian clubs. In 2007 he moved to the Turkish club Çaykur Rizespor . There he was also a regular goalkeeper, but he only played in Turkey for one year . That year he completed 30 games. In 2009 he played for the Argentinian club CA Huracán . However, his contract was not extended. He then remained without a club for some time. On January 28, 2010, he signed a contract with the English top club Manchester City .

In January 2011, González was loaned to Leeds United through the end of the 2010/11 season. After he came to no use there, he was loaned to the Scottish club FC Aberdeen for six months in July of the same year . In early 2012, Manchester City announced that their contract with González had been terminated. Shortly thereafter, the Colombian signed a contract until the end of the season with Brighton & Hove Albion from the Football League Championship . After González played two league games for Brighton & Hove Albion, his contract was not renewed at the end of the season.

After playing two games for Barnsley FC , he moved back to his home country for Deportivo Pasto . After only four league appearances, he moved to league rivals Itagüí FC for the 2014 season . After just one season, he turned his back on Rionegro and returned to Medellin , where he played for Independiente Medellin , for which he was active between 2002 and 2005. He was a regular goalkeeper for Independiente and won both the 2016 championship and the 2019 cup . He also took part in the Copa Libertadores with his team (2017 and 2019), but the opening rounds ended there. In the 2020 season González moved to league competitor Deportivo Cali , for whom he has also played before.

National team

On January 15, 2005, he completed his first international match for Colombia in a 2-1 win against South Korea . Almost exactly twelve years later, on January 26, 2017, he made his second international appearance in the friendly against Brazil (0-1).
