Mauricio Molina (born April 30, 1980 in Medellín , Colombia ) is a former Colombian football player.
Career
Club career
Molina started his career at the age of sixteen in the youth team of Envigado FC before playing in the club's professional division from 1998 to 2001. Until 2003 he moved to other Colombian clubs twice before he played outside Colombia for the first time with his move to the Mexican first division club Monarcas Morelia . From there he moved to the Al Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates for a short time before returning to Independiente Medellín , where he had already played from 2002 to 2003.
In the meantime, Molina played for the CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina and again for Independiente Medellín. In 2007 he moved again to the Paraguayan club Club Olimpia , where he finished second in the scorers list when he left. With his move to the Serbian club Red Star Belgrade , he made his debut in European professional football. After a few months he moved back to America, to the Brazilian club FC Santos .
In July 2009, Molina was bought by Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma . On his debut in the South Korean K-League , he scored his first goal for the club in the game against Pohang Steelers . Molina won the 2010 AFC Champions League with Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma , qualifying the club for the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup . After a victory in the quarter-finals, the team was eliminated in the semi-finals and then took 4th place. With three goals (two of them in the game for third place) Molina was the top scorer of the competition.
On December 31, 2015, Molina signed again with Independiente Medellín and returned to Colombia after nine years. There he ended his active career two years later.
National team
In 2001 Mauricio Molina made his international debut for the Colombian national football team . With the national team, he won the Copa America 2001 in his own country. On July 17, 2003 he scored his first international goal in a 1-1 draw against Guatemala in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup .
