The Estadio Francisco Rivera Escobar is a football stadium in the Colombian city ​​of Palmira that also has a track for athletics competitions. It has space for 9,000 spectators and serves as the home of the Colombian second division club Orsomarso SC and the club Generaciones Palmiranas, which is active in women's and youth football .

history

The stadium, built in the 1950s, was named after a doctor. The first professional team to play in the stadium was América de Cali , which first played its home games in Palmira in 1954 and later moved to Palmira several times due to renovation work at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali . Since 1992, various teams in the Colombian second division have used the Estadio Francisco Rivera Escobar as their home stadium: Palmira FC , Univalle , Expreso Palmira and Deportes Palmira . Since 2016, Orsomarso SC , a club from Palmira, has been playing in the second Colombian league again. The stadium is also the home of Generaciones Palmiranas women's football club , which won the 2016 championship and took part in the 2016 Copa Libertadores Femenina . The women's football department of Orsomarso SC took part in the first season of the Liga Profesional Femenina Colombia in 2017.

Remodeling and renovations

From 2012 to 2015 the stadium structure was reinforced and the athletics track was renewed. The stadium will be expanded from 2017. The capacity after the renovation should be 16,500 spectators.
